The Commissioning Process

Thank you for checking out the information for commissioning a portrait. I realise that this can be a scary experience because you want to have a lasting memory of your pet or family member, and you need to have confidence that you are choosing the right artist. I hope that the information I have provided helps you to feel comfortable and can connect with my process, and you can join me on a fantastic journey.

After initial contact by email or telephone, I will ask you to send a digital photo of your amazing pet or family member. We can discuss if you would like a head/shoulders or full portrait – this helps to determine the size of portrait e.g. A4, 14”x11” or larger. Would you like to have a background – this can depend on the colouring of your pet/family member – a neutral beige often works well, however a more detailed background will incur an extra cost dependent upon your requirements. A due date will be agreed to suit us both – current commissions are a consideration, and delivery or collection will also be discussed. Delivery is free within a 10 miles radius of Shepley, greater distances are posted out by Royal Mail at your expense, or it is free to collect.

Once all the requirements are in place and agreed, I will ask for a non-refundable 50% deposit payable by bank transfer. On receipt of the deposit, work will commence to be completed by the agreed completion date.

You will receive regular updates by email. This shows the progress and process, explaining why I have worked in a particular way and what areas I will be working on next.  Commissioning a portrait of your pet/family member is a big thing, progress photos have proved popular and helps you to feel part of the process.

On completion of your portrait, you will receive a photo and when you are happy, I will ask for the remaining balance to be paid before arranging delivery/collection. All of our paintings are fully insured.
